The Mid America Truck Show is Coming March 27 -29! Are you Ready?

The truck show this year looks to be as exciting as ever. If you haven't registered for your spot yet, you can still do so online. Registering online costs the same as at the door but shortens your wait time. Just remember to print out your registration form and bring it with you. If you plan on staying in town but haven't book your room yet, Good Luck! You might be staying farther away than you think. Here is a link to some local hotels that may help: Hotel Contact Info. There is always plenty of food vendors on site at the truck show, but try to make it out for some local cuisine if you can. Here's a link to some local favorites: Local Restaurants

The main events start Thursday, March 27 at 9 a.m. The highlights for Thursday will be appearances by Edgar Hansen from the Deadliest Catch TV show, NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer will be at the PEAK Industrial booth and award winning country musician Craig Morgan will also be on hand. There are also several big giveaways going on Thursday so be sure to sign up for as many as you can.

Events start up again Friday, March 28 at 9 a.m. From 10 - 6 pm be sure to make your way through the PKY Truck Beauty Championship. This is the largest grouping of show trucks in the county, so be sure to check them out. If your wife will let you, you can also swing by and meet the Chrome & Elegance Calendar Models from 10 - 12:30. These lovely ladies will be signing autographs and posing for pictures. Edgar Hansen from the Deadliest Catch TV show will also be there on Friday in booth 41064. Don't forget to keep signing up for all the giveaways as you wander around the event, some of the prizes are huge! The main event for the night will run from 7 - 9 pm in the Freedom Hall and will feature country music star Gretchen Wilson. Gretchen has won all sorts of awards for her music and from what I've heard really puts on a good show, so don't miss it.

Saturday, March 29 will be the last day of the show. The festivities will get going again at 9am. The PKY Truck Beauty Championship will run from 9 - 4pm. If this is the first day you're at the show, or if you didn't make it around all the trucks on Friday you need to make it a priority. The trucks are amazing every year. Edgar Hansen from the Deadliest Catch TV show will be back in booth 41064 from 9 -4pm. Again, don't forget to get in on all the giveaways going on this year as you make the rounds. If you can, try and find time to take in at least one of the many forums and lectures that will be going on. These are a great way to keep in touch with what's new and exciting in the trucking industry. They are also a great place to rest your tired feet after walking all day. County star Sara Evans will be in booth 12268 from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. and then over at booth 41064 from 12:30 - 2pm. be sure to stop by and get an autograph.

Every year the truck show blows my mind. The sheer size of the event is overwhelming. The time and detail put into all the trucks is un-real. And, all the time and effort the vendors and staff put into making sure everyone has a fun and safe time is sure appreciated. Highway and Heavy Parts doesn't have a booth at the truck show this year, but we'll be in the crowd. So, if you see anyone in HHP hats or shirts make sure to say hi. We look forward to seeing you there!

Proposed Category 11 Oil (PC-11): What It Means for the Heavy Highway Industry

Until now, oil changes have been rather routine maintenance procedures for diesel engine fleet owners, but with new Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission regulations being implemented by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), the days of simply dumping a few gallons of 15w40 into an engine could soon be a thing of the past.

These more stringent regulations have resulted in the development of a new commercial engine oil performance category know as Proposed Category 11 (PC-11). Unlike previously created performance categories that aimed to improve engine durability and meet the needs of technologies used to reduce exhaust emissions, PC-11 was created largely to reduce GHG emissions and improve fuel economy.

In order to address the issue of fuel economy, two new blends are being created in the category to meet federal regulations for heavy trucks being phased in between the years 2014 and 2018. Many experts believe that eventually this could result in owners and end users having to carry not one but two grades of oil in order to fully cover the different trucks in their fleet. This includes the already popular heavier viscosity oils such as SAE 15w40 along with newer low viscosity, fuel-efficient mixtures. The creation of these two new subcategories further complicates matters due to the fact that it is unlikely that the low viscosity oils will be compatible with legacy engines.

Although low viscosity oils offer greater fuel economy, they provide significantly less wear protection. As a result, many older diesel engines that utilize these grades will be less protected from the normal wear and tear that typically occurs over the lifespan of a truck. The increased use of trucks fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) may further complicate issues due to the fact that they require specially manufactured oils to meet the operating temperature requirements of their engines.

Though many experts believe that there will be a continued push towards low viscosity fuels that result in greater fuel economy and less CO2 emissions, they also believe that many of the heavy, high viscosity oils used today will remain prominent for both on-highway and off-highway purposes. And as fleet owners continue to look for new and innovative ways to cut operating costs and maximize uptime, the development of lubricants that can adequately protect engines without sacrificing fuel economy will become increasingly important.

To learn more about PC-11 and how tightening environmental regulations will likely affect diesel engine maintenance facilities, or to discuss the requirements of a specific diesel engine model, contact Highway and Heavy Parts (HHP) at (855) 447-7278 and speak with one of their qualified professionals.
